Punjab Expands Ration Card Program to Include 50,000 More People

The Punjab Government has decided to expand its welfare efforts. Punjab expands ration card program to include 50,000 more people under a new plan. The decision aims to support low-income families and improve social protection across the province.

The decision came during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Officials discussed financial support for people living below the poverty line. Moreover, the government also approved a plan to collect data and mapping of beggars across Punjab.

According to the briefing, more than 1.6 million people have already benefited from welfare schemes. These include the ration card, Himmat Card, and Minority Card programs. Furthermore, the government plans to support 1.4 million people through ration cards and over 200,000 through Himmat Cards this fiscal year.

In addition, the chief minister directed authorities to establish orphanages for abandoned children. She also called for partnerships with verified NGOs to improve services for women and children. Meanwhile, she ordered better maintenance of wheelchairs and assistive devices for those in need.

Finally, she emphasized digital reforms and public welfare improvements. She instructed officials to involve the private sector in revamping industrial centers and to digitize medicine supply through Zakat funds.
